Diving
With such a fantastically favourable climate and an astonishing array of underwater sites, it’s easy to see why Malta is consistently voted one of the best diving destinations in the World!
It’s hardly surprising that divers flock to the Maltese Islands from far and wide to explore its crystal clear waters. Offering a wide choice of shore and boat dives at varying depths, there’s something to suit divers of all abilities. With the possibility for anyone over the age of 10 to attain recognized diving qualifications, Malta really is the ideal destination for a family holiday!
Food and Wine
Maltese cuisine is the result of a long relationship between the Islanders and the many civilizations who occupied the Maltese Islands over the centuries. This marriage of tastes has given Malta an eclectic mix of Mediterranean cooking. With a blend of Sicilian, North African, Arab, and British cultures, Malta put its own touch on flavor.
Traditional Maltese food is rustic and based on the seasons. Be sure to try Lampuki Pie (fish pie), Rabbit Stew, Bragioli (beef olives), Kapunata, (Maltese version of ratatouille), and widow’s soup, which includes a small round of Gbejniet(sheep or goat’s cheese)
and pastizzi (flaky pastry parcel filled with ricotta or mushy peas).
A trip to the Marsaxlokk fish market on Sunday morning will show you just how varied the fish catch is in Maltese waters. When fish is in abundance, you’ll find fresh Aljotta (fish soup).
The main wineries organize guided tours and tastings. Depending on the season, tours cover the entire production, from the initial fermentation through to the ageing process. They also include wine history museums and opportunities to taste and buy a variety of vintages.
